SERVICE AREA
We cover all of Germantown. This includes zip code 19144 and parts of 19138. While our commitment extends to serving the entire Germantown community, our on-the-ground efforts are concentrated on targeted sections within the neighborhood that have been strategically designated for reinvestment.
Commercial Corridor Management
GU offers commercial corridor management within the Germantown and Chelten commercial area, including the pivotal intersection of Germantown and Chelten Avenues.
GERMANTOWN AND CHELTEN
Chelten (from Baynton to Morris), Germantown (from Coulter to Washington), Greene (from School House to Rittenhouse), Wayne (from Chelten to Rittenhouse), and Maplewood Mall
Census Tracts: 238, 239, 241, 242, 244, 245, 246 and 252
Our efforts within the Germantown and Chelten commercial area receive backing from the City of Philadelphia’s Targeted Corridor Management Program, overseen by the Philadelphia Commerce Department. The program activities cater to an area where 67.15% of the population belongs to the low and moderate income bracket. The potential for Germantown’s overall revival lies in the revitalization of these mixed-use areas where commercial and residential intertwine. The scope of our services is partially shaped by the availability of funding for corridor management staff, which is currently limited to the designated target area.
MORE COMMERCIAL AREAS IN GERMANTOWN
We are eager to extend assistance to businesses across the Germantown area. The neighborhood is fortunate to have several shopping areas marked by significant commercial activity, creating a haven for a diverse range of small businesses. These include:
LOWER GERMANTOWN, WAYNE AVENUE and WAYNE JUNCTION
Germantown (Coulter to Berkeley); Berkley (Germantown to Wayne); Wayne (Berkley to Mannheim)
CHEW and CHELTEN
Chew (Locust to Stafford); Chelten (Musgrave to Bloyd)
Resident Services
As a Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) organization, Germantown United CDC acts as the representative organization providing technical assistance to any resident within our specified boundaries. We work in partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Housing and Community Economic Development, which oversees the citywide NAC program. Our involvement in the NAC program prioritizes the census tracts listed below.
