Flooding and Community Resilience: The Waterway Arts Initiative Kickoff

July 10 @ 4:00 PM 7:00 PM

Description (from host)

Join us for the Waterway Arts Initiative’s inaugural event in Germantown! The Germantown neighborhood is among the most threatened areas in Philadelphia for urban flash flooding, and this event aims to address these critical issues.

The 2024 Waterway Arts Initiative is a collaborative effort between the Philadelphia Water Department, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, and Mural Arts Philadelphia. Our goal is to foster environmental discourse, empower community resilience, and share crucial information and resources about flooding in Philadelphia.

Event Highlights:

  • Informative Presentation: Learn about infrastructure-related flooding and its impact on Germantown.
  • Engaging Activities: Creative and educational activities for the whole family from paper-making to family portraits
  • Resource Sharing: Access valuable resources and information about flood prevention and safety.
  • Free food!

This initiative brings together residents, artists, and scientists to explore flooding through multidisciplinary research, community science, and creative storytelling. By participating, you’ll be contributing to a larger effort to understand and mitigate flooding in our community.

Location: Awbury Arboretum, Francis Cope House (1 Awbury Rd – entrance on Chew Ave. between Haines St. & Walnut Lane)
